Cultural heritage of Vallentuna inspired to build a viking themed playground in SwedenVallentuna is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Vallentuna is known for its viking history and especially having the most rune stones in the world in an area which is now called Runriket (The Rune Kingdom). A rune stone is typically a raised stone with a runic inscription but the term can also be applied to inscriptions on boulders and on bedrock. Runestones occur in Scandinavia and they were common during the Viking Age. When planning the playground, the contractor Lappset Sweden AB took inspiration from Vallentuna's cultural heritage with its diversity of rune stones and created a place that alludes to the municipality's history. For the playground on Bergvägen they created Vallentuna's very own rune stone carousel based on one of the stones in the municipality.Inspired by the carousel, the playground got a viking theme with the viking ship Runa in the center and swings with dragon heads and a welcome portal in the same spirit. For the slightly older children, there are climbing nets and open areas. All to encourage the children's imagination and playfulness. Inclusiveness has also been considered. The viking ship has many play functions at the ground level and the artificial grass helps moving around. Of course there are also places for coffee, rest and sun at a reasonable distance from the play area. The Chilla furniture group offers seating in different levels, but can also be used as a grandstand for football games or for picnics.
